Dollar Country

Goals/Methods/Gear

There are over 800 Instantaneous Discs in the collection currently and that number is constantly growing. There are some that are beyond repair, or at least beyond the digitization methods Dollar Country currently has at it's disposal. The basic plan is to digitize as many as possible.

Methods

Each disc goes through roughly the same process:

  1. Scan/Photograph disc as received
  2. Clean playing surface
  3. Determine correct stylus width
  4. Digitize disc
  5. Edit, set equalizer, and export digital versions in multiple formats.
    • Flat equalized master .wav file
    • Equalized and edited versions in .mp3
    • Equalized and edited versions in .wav
    • Other formats and EQ versions as necessary
  6. Put disc in new sleeve and label with identification number
  7. Post photos, information, and audio to dollarcountry.org

Goals

The above process can take as little as an hour for clean and easy digitizations and up to a day for discs with more variables and condition issues. The goals are as follows:

  1. Digitize at least 5 discs per week (one per work day)
  2. Share to as many people as possible and try to gain as much knowledge about each disc and artist as possible.
