J.J. Dickens was born in Oklahoma and moved to Chicago in the early 60s to get his start in country music. His first band was called the Barrier Breakers because they were a mostly black country band. In the 70s he moved to Uitca Illinois, which is where he stayed until he passed in 2005. His later band was called the Western Perceptions. His age is a secret and isn't even on his tombstone.
