Info

Born in Ward WV, Roger Martin came to the public conscience in 1976 when he spray painted his name in a few places visible while driving down I-71 in Cleveland Ohio. The local paper called him the Phantom Scribbler and didn't know who it could be for a few days until Martin "turned himself in" to the news desk and offered to clean up the graffiti. It had all been a way to get his name out there about his country music singing, and it worked. Throughout the later 70s, 80s, and 90s he played hundreds of gigs around north east ohio, opened his own honky tonk, and had a lot of trouble with drugs and alcohol.
Before his country career he served in the US Marine Corps in Vietnam and was injured and awarded a purple heart.
In 1998 he passed away at the age of 48 of complications from liver disease.
