Audio Description

Side A is a recording of the Magic Valley Jamboree from Charleston WV in 1949, hosted by Sleepy and Honey. The audio starts with the end of a song featuring the mandolin on a radio program with many people present. Somebody says "That's Frank Hall on mandolin" after it stops. Then someone mentions that their steel guitar player has a voice like Frank Sinatra. Chubby Wise is called up to the microphone and sings Just A Little Lovin' with guitar accompaniment. Afterwards the whole band gets together into a version of Boil Them Cabbage Down.

Side B is a recording of a radio program playing Frankie & Johnny by Maggie Whiting and Jack Smith. An announcer gives the name of the artists and then goes into a version of Lady Of Spain.

Comments from Frank

Really great snippet of a jamboree radio show from 1949. The hosts are Sleepy Jeffers & Honey Davis, but they only play on the last song. They refer to the singer of Just A Little Lovin as Chubby Wise but I couldn't find any evidence that he'd ever done that song anywhere else, nor had I ever heard him play guitar and sing before. I know him as a fiddle player, but there it is right in the audio.
