The Story Of Emmer Hartsell is about the murder of Emma Hartsell, a 12 year old girl in Cabarrus County NC. The ending of this story is that two black men were taken by a mob from their jail cells and lynched. There seems to be no evidence that they actually did it, but the social climate at the time in NC was incredibly racist due to politicians and media spreading stories of black men committing horrible crimes to white people, especially white women, in order to consolidate political power.
